First Teacher: the reverend Maulana Qari Asghar Ali (may Allah bless him with peace) Apparent Heir and trustworthy of: Shaikhul Islam Hazarat Maulana Syed Hussain Ahmed Madani (may Allah fill his grave with peace). At the age of eight years he learnt Holy Quran by heart and read it out unseeingly to Shaikhul Islam (may Allah fill his grave with peace) at Pehli Mehrab Baskandi in Assam.
Beginning of Arabic Education
After the completion of Persian syllabus in five years, he following the present rules of Darululoom, started to take lessons in Arabic language in 1955.
He took admission in Darululoom in 1959, his elder brother and patron of his family the reverend Fida-e-Millat (may Allah bestow peace upon him) called Maulana Waheeduzzama Keranvi (may Allah bestow peace upon him) from Delhi to educate and train Maulana Arshad Madani in Arabic language. And almost three years Maulana Waheeduzzaman gave training in Arabic language and literature to Maulana Arshad Madani. After that he took lessons in Arabic language and literature from two great Egyptian Scholars – Shaikh Abdul Wahab and Mahmood Abdul Wahab(may Allah bestow peace upon both of them) who were deputed by then Egyptian Government. Along with these scholars he kept on learning of other applied subjects from other teachers of Darululoom Deoband. Until he was awarded with completion certificate in 1963(only after the complete revision of pioneer Hadith books)
Among his renowned and famous teachers are pride of Hadith scholar Hazarat Maulana Syed Fakhruddin Moradabadi, great scholar of literature and Jurisprudence Maulana Ezaz Ali, great scholar of logic- Allama Mohammad Ibraheem Baliavi, special attentend and fellow of Shaikhul Hind(may Allah bestow peace upon him) Maulana Jaleel Ahmad Keranvi and Maulana Akhtar Hussain Deobandi (may Allah bestow peace upon him) who need special mention.
The Oath of Allegiance and Mysticism
After completing his education he took the way of mysticism and took the oath of allegiance to his elder brother. Under his noble and able guidance and supervision he achieved milestones in the long journey of practicing mysticism. Due to the noble and proper training by his reverend father Shaikhul Islam (may Allah cover his grave with peace) in childhood instant impact and quick influences were made and in very short period of time he got mastery over preaching and practicing of mysticism.
Following the foot steps of his highly reverend and respected father and elder brother he too spent 14 years in the holy city of Madina for reorientation and polishing his knowledge and deeds related to mysticism and Islam. And to accomplish this he spent most of the time in the holy mosque of Madina to get enlightenment from the spirituality of Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H).
Career as Teacher
He has been shouldering his responsibilities as a teacher in main institute of Bihar “Jamia Qasmia, Gaya” since 1965.
Following the order of renowned scholar and leading Hadith teacher in Darululoom Deoband and president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind the reverend Maulana Syed Fakhruddin, he graces the position of a teacher in Jamia Qasmia Madrasa Shahi, Moradabad in 1969. Members of advisory council of Madrasa Shahi Moradabad acknowledged his educational and administrative capabilities and appointed convener of educational council in 1971, and became vice-principal in 1972, while Maulana Syed Fakhruddin a pride of Hadith scholar, was principal.
In 1982, on the invitation of the members of the advisory council he graced the auspicious position of teacher in Darululoom Deoband.
His illustrated career as a teacher and educator in both Jamia Qasmia and Darululoom Deoband is spread over 43 years.
He, from 1987 to 1990, was vice-principal of Darululoom Deoband and from 1996 to 2008 was principal in same centre of excellence.
During his principalship, with his tireless efforts and strive, he made department of learning Quran by heart, its phonetic declamation and Arabic language classes from elementary and literature to fourth standards ideal centres of excellence. He was nominated as a member of working committee of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind in1984. And elected as president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind in 2006 after the sad demise of Fida-e-Millat (may Allah bestow peace upon him).
Writings and Research
While preserving Shaikhul Islam’s (may Allah cover his grave with peace) heritage of scholarship, he, with help of an expert in Hindi language, commenced in1980 to write explanatory notes of holy Quran in Hindi language and completed this two volume book in1991. A manuscript consists of 722 pages in two volumes, and related to Hanafic Jurisprudence called Aqadul Faraid Fi Takmeel-e-Qaide-ul-Sharaid alias “Manzooma Ibne Wahban” could be published first time with his remarks and research.
He, somehow, got access to the manuscript of 8th century researcher and renowned scholar Allama Hafiz Badruddin Aainee’s (may Allah bestow peace upon him) master peace and unmatched book “Nakhbul Afkar Fi Tanqueeh Mabani-ul-Akhyar Fi Sharah-e-Mani-ul-Aasar” which was preserved in Egyptian library and Maulana started its publication with his remarks, reviews and research findings with the grace of god. This book consist an eleven voluminous volumes.
In fact this was an educational debt on Ulema’s of Hanafic Jurisprudence which was returned by Arshad Madani with utter cheerfulness and in the best manner for which he deserves all praises and appreciations of scholars of all hues and fold specially from Hanafic community (may Allah reward him with good return and blessing) with all praises to Allah to its second edition is ready to be published under the supervision of all time famous Syrian scholar of Islamic world and an expert in Hanafic Jurisprudence, now resident of Madina his revered Mohammad Awammah from the holy city of Madina in 19 volumes and very soon will be in the hands of readers and scholars.
Nakshe Hayat, an autobiography of Shaikhul Islam Wal Muslimeen was so far in Urdu Maulana Syed Arshad Madani got the privilege to first time translate and render it into Arabic language.
Very soon, by god willing, this Arabic version will be in public domain. Likewise, first time in the world, Maulana started his research and review work on 9th century’s famous scholar and expert in Hanafic Jurisprudence Allama Ibrahim Ibne Musa Tarabulsi’s authentic book “Al Burhan Fi Sharhe Mowahebur Rahman” by the god willing, this book will be published very soon.
Spreading of Education and Charitable Works
He established Madani charitable trust in 1997, and first time under its ageis made an arrangement for modern education in religious atmosphere and set up Maulana Madani memorial English medium school in Deoband.
He also started two centres of religious and modern education at Gangoh and Anbitah Peerzadgan in western U.P. establishing of an I.T.I and hostels are parts of its developmental programs under the ageis of this trust many Madrasas and Schools were started. Establishment of many residential schools and Madrasas, an I.T.I in Punjab and construction of mosques with other charitable works are being done in backward and poor areas especially in apostate affected area of Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
Maulana keeps on touring on invitation to far flung areas of India and wherever Muslims are residing in the world to academic symposium, seminars and religious public meetings. Bangladesh, Pakistan, U.A.E, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Malavi, Zambia, South Africa, America, Panama, Barbados, Trinidad, Mauritius, Reunion, Britian, Saudi Arabia are few countries which he toured.
He is patron and president of different Indian Arabic Madrasas and organizations. After the sad demise of Fida-e-Millat (may Allah fill his grave with peace) in Feb 2006, he was elected as president of older, prestigious and great organization of Muslims Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind.
Because of his educational, religious and ideological distinction he was the most rightful and deserving person for this post and unhesitingly and undoubtedly it could be said that the most rightful person got his due.
In the last we pray to Allah to grant leaps and bounds success to Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind under the able and noble leadership of Maulana Arshad Madani.
